You know, I had honestly forgotten all about this until I received a message from TryAthlete. Thank you because I honestly think it would really help me to write stuff down! I'm already behind!
Quick update and we'll see how those goals are coming from way back in October! Yikes!
Overall I'm doing well. Have been having some trouble with my left knee again so running has pretty much come to a hault. That probably fills you in on how goal # 1 is going! Actually, this was a huge bummer because up until I decided I had to give into it (January, late December?) My run was feeling considerably strong. I completed a 10 mile run while being sick and still felt good and went faster than I was planning on so I was really excited. Oh well... will have to rebuild, maybe that will be good. As for right now, I've visited the doctor and we're trying some things out to help stabilize the knee. I've been cycling a TON on the indoor bikes to keep the legs active which is good as far as keeping some strength in the leg, but it has also made my IT bands tighter than they should be. I will keep you updated on the knee saga.
Goal #2: Strenght training. I was doing GREAT on this one... again destroyed by the knee thing... stopped lifting legs when the knee started to hurt. But... I did manage to keep up with the upper body (on top of starting to swim again so that I could do some sort of workout not involving my legs whatsoever) so that is still in the game. Need to get the legs strength going though!
Goal #3: Mtn biking... yeah, that's going to have to wait a bit!
Goal #4: Xcountry skiing... well, I'm heading to Hayward, WI this Friday for my first Xcountry race! I won't be doing the Birkie... I'm leaving that to Mark, but I was talked into attempting the Kordie. I'm scared as hell but think I can accomplish the distance so we'll see how it goes. Skiing is still not my favorite and I find it daunting for some reason. I am usually ok once I get out there and when I finish, but for some reason dread going out there. Not sure if it is because I'm not fully skilled at it yet or that I don't like not being good at it or what... BUT since we have been chasing snow all winter, I feel that I have indeed improved my skills and that is a good start. I suppose if I don't keep getting out there and trying it will never stop daunting me as a workout right? It is gorgeous out there!
Goal #5: Leaning out the legs... Yeah, I think that was working when I was running, but now I'm not so thrilled! Long way to go before I'm seen in a bathing suit!!!!
Goal #6: Stomach/eating: Hmmm... this one is tough. So far I have figured out that I feel better when I eliminate wheat/gluten from my diet. I am fairly sure this does not take care of all the problems, but helps with some of them! I'm still so frustrated because there always seems to be something that bothers me. Hating it for sure, but since the doctors are providing no help whatsoever, I guess I need to just suck it up and realize this is how it's going to be. Man do I miss bread!!!! I'll keep trying to figure it out though! Any suggestions are always welcome! As always, I love chocolate! (trying to cut it back though!)
Goal #7: Involving more friends: Yeah, failing miserably at this one. I don't see anyone these days and it gets even harder since I can't do all the fun winter workouts that everyone else is doing. I'll keep working on this one!
Ok... I guess that's it for the update and goals. I will end with the fact that I am signed up for Ironman #3 in Madison this September. That being said, I believe I am already behind on starting my training program, however it's early. I am definitely not focused on it at this time, but I'm sure it will come around!
I hope all is well and again, thanks for getting me back in here. I'll aim for once a week and see if I can at least stick to that!
Smiles,
